Retention Management

Autonomy Records Management can control the costs of managing records requiring long term or permanent preservation. On adding items to Autonomy Records Management they are stored on the most appropriate storage device, in their native format. All metadata regarding the items is stored in a database, with a reference to the items’ location within a controlled file system.  The file system can be configured to be organised into folders according to the date and other parameters.

Autonomy Records Management provides storage management to optimise the cost and performance characteristics of the storage used.  Items for example, can initially be stored in a high performance storage device (e.g. SAN or DAS) and the system then manages them through their lifecycle according to the relevant policy.  This may mean for example that items initially reside on high performance devices for 3 months, are automatically migrated to medium performance storage for 6 months, and then moved to low cost storage until disposition a number of years later.
